AMD CrossFire Print E-mail

In October we saw AMD acquire ATI for approximately $5.4 billion. At the time they said it will benefit consumers due to the joint research and integrated platforms. They referred to the joint company as "the new AMD."

Now we can see what AMD meant as they are extending the AMD brand to the ATI CrossFire chipsets. This means they now have the AMD 580X CrossFire and AMD 480X CrossFire chipsets, rather than the ATI CrossFire 3200 and 1600 chipsets.

For many years ATI and Nvidia have fought to produce the best graphics cards (GPU) very similar to AMD and Intel in the CPU market. Although since the take over Nvidia have increased their share of the market, beating ATI to the top spot.

It will be interesting to see what affect this name change has, can AMD video cards take Nvidia's crown?
